Does anyone remember a local band called "Silver Jets" from 1962?

I was looking online and came across a 45rpm record by a group called "Silver Jets". The two songs on the 45rpm was "Roberta" and the other was called "Modockin". The 45rpm was recorded and produced by "Parr Records". The label also had Frankfort Indiana listed on it under the groups name. Both songs were recorded in May of 1962. The songs sound like a garage band with a surf sound. The credits on the label also listed the following names;

D. Leslie
J. Coffman
M. Coffman
M. Chittick
D. Vyse

Does anyone know of this band and if any of these members are still around?

Hi Steve,

The Silver Jets played at the Riley Frolic when I was a kid. M. Chittick is Mike Chittick who played the drums. I think He and his mother used to live on Young Street a couple houses north of Stott Field. There was a Mike Coffman (maybe from Thorntown area) who was a piano player, but I don't know if that was the guy on the record.

Mike, thanks for the info!

I found an mp3 online of their song "Roberta" and I heard a small portion of the other song "Modockin'".  I like early surf music and when I heard of this band from Frankfort, I did some searching and was amazed that there is a mp3 of their songs online.  I did like what I heard of the two songs.  I asked my brother if he ever heard of them and he said he remembered them.  He would have been a pre-teen in 1962.  I myself wasn't born for another year yet.

Anyone else have anymore info on "Silver Jets" please post it here.

Once I thought I made a mistake - but I was wrong! The Coffman I was thinking of was Mark Coffman, not Mike. A friend of mine who was in another band, The Astronauts, remembers the Silver Jets. He said they "specialized" in the Bo Diddly beat.

The two Coffmans were brothers, Johnny and Mark. Amazingly, they wanted to play music and bought guitars and started playing. I don't believe either one ever had any lessons. Mark was Class of '61. Johnny was six or seven years older. Mark passed away in California several years ago. Johnny did live toward Thorntown on Highway 47 a block or so east of where it intersects U.S. Highway 52. I believe he is still in that area. The last time I spoke with Johnny was at Harry Coffman's (father) funeral. He was still playing some then.

I remember the Silver Jets! The Coffman's lived across the street and two houses down from me when I was younger. They would practice in the garage and I wound sometimes go over and listen. I have one of their 45's somewhere. His son Jeff sang in the band Bodacious.

Once you click on the above link it will take you to beemp3 website and you will see a box midway down the page on the RH side.  Click on the green arrow and hear the song.

Actually, the record was recorded at the JC Teen Club at the Fairgrounds.

Frazier Dairy was the location of what I believe was the Coffman's first public gig in December, 1960 (I think).  Remember, Johnny worked for Frazier's.
