Anyone have memorabilia from the Roxy Theater?

Looking for memorabilia from the Roxy Theater.  Does anyone out there have any newspaper clippings, photos or whatever pertaining to the Roxy?  What would be nice is a photo of the interior.

Thanks!

Steve

The one memory I have right off.The early to middle 50's .The Roxy had an usher with the nickname of "skeeter".I ,as a child, never knew his real name, you just didn't want skeeter to catch you talking or goofing off during the movie. Also during the 50,s they had matinee's on Sat.I believe abt.10a to 12p or 1p. Usually a Roy Rodgers,LoneRanger or Gene Autry movie. This was during the summer months and cost I think $1 for 12 tickets. It was a good deal for back then!!There also a story going around abt. a Mrs.Lippsett who was shot at in theater and the bullett was stuck in one of the seats.I don't know if that's a true story or not but I knew Mrs.Lippsett and went to school with her son David. She also had a son by the name of Jay.I am so glad I found your web site.Let me know if you enjoyed my memory I have a few more.I left Frankfort in 1962.I attended Kyger and went to new school at Southside.I miss "Old Stoney" Ron Clidence

Hello Ron!

Glad you are enjoying Frankfort Place.  Where did you go after leaving Frankfort?

I wish I had something from the Roxy, it was a big part of my life, as it was for everyone in Frankfort at the time. I seem to remember that they auctioned off the seats in "clock row" and had it in the Times who bought it. I did end up with some red velvet from the curtains that had been there at one time, but that is long gone.
My earliest memory is of being dropped of in front of the Roxy when I was about 4. My brother was an usher (I don't think he was Skeeter!) and my parents were sure he would watch out for me. HA! My parents really didn't understand how much he really didn't like having a little sister. It's a wonder that I spent so many years after that there.
Does anyone else remember taking a Fraizer milk cap in on Saturdays to enter for a prize? I won a toy truck one week, which was the big prize and some little stuff other weeks.

PJ,

FYI I have just acquired some old home movies from the early 1950s of a parade downtown.  It just so happens that the person taking the movie was standing in front of the People's Life Building facing the Roxy Theater.  A lot of this footage shows the front of the Roxy as parade floats go by.  It is really a nice piece of history of downtown Frankfort.

As soon as I get these transferred over to digital, I will be putting the video of these home movies on the Frankfort Place Video Vault page.

Glad you are enjoying the site.
