I lived on the south side of Frankfort on Alahambra Ave. growing up. Attended South Side Elem. School from 1965-1971. Any others remember this era. Would be interested in starting a conversation. Also does anyone older from Frankfort know about Alhambra Lake??
I attended Southside School in the late 50's.When I started 6th grade it was a new school. The first 6months I had Mrs.Thorton from Kyger and the last months a man teacher I don't remember. The 7th grade I had Benson Frye he was a very nice teacher. The principle was Herbert Brammel from Kyger also a very nice person.Benson Frye also coached Southside's first football team.First season we went undefeated and wasn't score against.Played our championship game against Lincoln School. Some of my team mates we Jack Hickson,Gary Dunn, and Bob Mckenze.A fellow teamate Bruce I don't remember his last name passed away later in the year of leukimia(sp)? A real nice kid how sad.If you know me please reply I'll be glad to do the same.Ron Clidence
I also attended Southside in the late 50's and early 60's. As a sixth grader, I too was on the undefeated football team. The teammate that died was Bobby Bruce. He had a younger sister Martha Bruce. Bob McKenzie also went to school with me out in Kilmore.
If I remember correctly, Mike, you were a pretty good shortstop for the VFW Yankees coached by Jesse Younger. Actually, I believe we won the championship one year. I pitched a little along with Dave Graves and Pat Ulm. We had a great team. Although I went to Riley, I can remember Bob McKenzie as being real fast. Nobody could catch him.
You're right Mike T.Bob Mckenzie was fast!In football he'd make an end run and he was gone.Coming up the middle you could stop him but it was like being hit by a freight train!I think he truly loved the game.
Same here.I never associated with him during or after school except to play football on the Southside team. Also another guy(best friend)Jack Hickson.Just recently found out he lives near the High School out on SR.28 I haven't seen or heard from him for 50yrs!!We were neighbors on S.Jackson St.and he was also on the Southside football team.Someone said he retired from Allison?
